My Money Week Winner Matthew AlbertA 12 year-old St Andrew the Apostle School student has beaten off more than 5300 competitors to win a prize for his money and finance abilities in the national My Money Week schools’ competition.

Matthew Albert was one of ten finalists from across the UK to receive his award at the British Museum’s City Money Gallery.  His task was to explore the concepts of good and bad debt and be an investigative journalist and create a compelling article for the money section of a newspaper. The competition, which is run by the Young Enterprise charity, is now in its eight year and aims to improve young people’s financial skills and knowledge through special lessons and activities.

Matthew, who was accompanied by his parents and Maths teacher, Mrs. Nicolas, won £250 for the school and £25 for himself. He said: "Becoming a My Money Week winner has been an amazing experience and has given me a unique insight into finance. When I found out I was in the top five out of 5311 people I thought I was going to do a back flip because I was so happy.”

Assistant Headteacher, Mrs. Sampson, said; “We are very proud of Matthew. The ability and confidence to manage money well is an essential life skill and something we encourage with all our students.”
