Algebraic expressions, index laws, negative and fractional indices, expanding and factorising, surds Solving quadratic equations, completing the square, functions, quadratic graphs, the discriminant, modelling with quadratics Linear and quadratic simultaneous equations, including graphs Algebraic fractions, polynomial division, factor theorem, mathematical proof, the Binomial Expansion. Statistics Measures of location and spread, including variance and standard deviation; coding Representations of data – outliers, box plots, cumulative frequency, histograms, comparing data Statistical Distributions – probability distributions, Binomial Distribution, cumulative probabilities. Mechanics Modelling in Mechanics, quantities and units, working with vectors Constant acceleration, displacement-time and velocity-time graphs, SUVAT equations (including vertical motion) | ||

Assessment: Internal test of 50 minutes duration on all topics covered once the relevant unit on Edexcel scheme of work is completed. Pure Maths is 62.5% of the Year 12 course. It is assessed through a 2 hour exam (internal) at the end of Year 12. Statistics and Mechanics are 37.5% of the course and are assessed by a 1h15m internal paper at the end of Y12.
