KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 7 Music
Term 1 & 2Perform & Sing   
Perform & Sing Students will start working on the 4 key learning areas, first by identifying their prior attainment and testing their abilities and then by setting specific targets on how to improve on those. They will be introduced to Music technology and learn how to record, play back and edit music, using the latest available resources. Compose , Listen & Analyse Students will work on their confidence levels through a series of singing tasks. They will learn about vocal ranges and will identify their own, before choosing appropriate material to perform in front of a live audience.
Assessment: Perform Ode to Joy and sing in a solo part within a group performance.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 3 & 4Vocal Chords & Vocal Range   
Vocal Chords and Vocal Range Students will work on their confidence levels through a series of singing tasks. They will learn about vocal ranges and will identify their own, before choosing appropriate material to perform in front of a live audience. Solo live performance Students will work on their confidence levels through a series of singing tasks. They will learn about vocal ranges and will identify their own, before choosing appropriate material to perform in front of a live audience.
Assessment: Perform solo twice, a song of your choice, focusing and demonstrating understanding of singing techniques.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5 & 6Instruments of the orchestra   
Strings & Brass instruments Students will look at the four families of instruments in detail, recognise them by sight and sound, and appreciate their characteristics and techniques. They will study orchestral pieces. Woodwind & Percussion instruments Students will look at the four families of instruments in detail, recognise them by sight and sound, and appreciate their characteristics and techniques. They will study orchestral pieces.
Assessment: Perform (using Logic) String and Woodwind parts of a classical piece of music and Perform (using Logic) Brass and Percussion parts of a classical piece of music.Key Words and Terms
