KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 9 Physical Education
Term 1Cricket & Basketball
Cricket Students will develop their understanding of the skills required in Softball bowling, batting and fielding. They will study rules and game situations and develop decision making skills. Basketball Students will apply learned skills. How to adapt performance for different positions. They will develop team work skills and use of strategy/tactics in a game in order to outwit opponents.
Assessment: All students are assessed both theoretically and practically and awarded 2 summative grades for each unit. Theoretical understanding is assessed through in-depth questioning on movement analysis and analysis of skills in performance.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 2Hockey
Hockey Students will further develop their skills and techniques with full-pitch 11 vs. 11. They will increase grasp of formation and the requirements of different positions.
Assessment: All students are assessed both theoretically and practically and awarded 2 summative grades for each unit. Theoretical understanding is assessed through in-depth questioning on movement analysis and analysis of skills in performance.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 3Health Related Education, Basketball & Table Tennis
Health Related Education Students will utilise what they know already to create and lead circuits or exercises for the rest of the class to participate in, including the warm-up and cool-down, the benefits of exercise and safety principles. Basketball Students will apply learnt skills. How to adapt performance for different positions. They will develop team work skills and use of strategy/tactics in a game in order to outwit opponents. Table Tennis Students will play small modified games to practice the basics of forehand and backhand shots and develop the overhead clear and drop shot. Students will learn the basics of table tennis: rules and points.
Assessment: All students are assessed both theoretically and practically and awarded 2 summative grades for each unit. Theoretical understanding is assessed through in-depth questioning on movement analysis and analysis of skills in performance.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 4Health Related Education & Netball
Health Related Education Students will utilise what they already know to create and lead circuits or exercises for the rest of the class to participate in, including the warm-up and cool-down, the benefits of exercise and safety principles. Netball Students will refine understanding of the rules, using this to adopt roles like refereeing and coaching.
Assessment: All students are assessed both theoretically and practically and awarded 2 summative grades for each unit. Theoretical understanding is assessed through in-depth questioning on movement analysis and analysis of skills in performance.Key Words and Terms
 
Term 5Volleyball & Rounders
Volleyball Students will learn and practice the necessary skills of the game and learn how to work tactically together as a team. Rounders Students further develop understanding of the game of rounders, with a focus on refining their skills and developing decision making in game situations.

Term 6Athletics
Athletics Students will peer assess and use the knowledge they have learned to refine skills in athletics events. They will study rules, regulations and scoring systems.
