Performance:

Focus on solo performance, submit a final recording by half term.

Composition:

Expand ideas, show clear development and ensure that the main structure is in place.

Whole class and one-to-one interventions sessions to take place online, to provide students with individual support on aspects of the coursework that they find more challenging.

Solo performances to be submitted and analytical written feedback to be provided, in case the recording is judged as non-final. Grading for each aspect of the performance to be given the week following the half term.

Musical cliche

In everyday language, a cliché is a phrase which is often used, or overused. In music is the expected musical step in order for the performer or composer to express specific emotions or to describe specific scenes.

Students learn to appreciate the difficulty composers have to create meaning through music. Students will deepen their understanding on a variety of contrasting musical cultures.

Ensemble

A musical ensemble, also known as a music group or musical group, is a group of people who perform instrumental or vocal music, with the ensemble typically known by a distinct name.

Students learn about the importance of the role within a small group and they become more aware of their contributions within a musical group

As each performer needs to be fully aware of others at any given time, it allows students to understand the importance of valuing other and working collaboratively to achieve a common goal.

Final amendments.

An opportunity for students to write independently for a longer period of time, in full sentences, and describe how the sound creates specific emotions to the listener.

A music genre is a conventional category that identifies some pieces of music as belonging to a shared tradition or set of conventions.
